For the record (hee)

Yes, people -- lawyers go to law school.

I'll say it again, in case someone googles it: lawyers go to law school.

So it's not necessary to ever ask a lawyer, "Oh, so did you go to grad school for that?"  The answer is yes, and that grad school was called "law school."

Dentists never get this, I suspect.

  1. I had the less obvious version of this in college. People would ask me what I was studying (English lit, library science) and what I wanted to do with it (be a librarian) and they said "You have to go to college for that?" and I wanted to say "To do what I want to do, YES." (Grad school, too, actually, but that was a bit beyond where we were at the time.)

Nothing like people thinking the job you want/have requires less education than it does.

  2. Wait. You have to go to school to be a lawyer? Shocking!

  3. Well at least you don't get asked if you are a REAL lawyer! ;)

  4. I get this question mostly from 12-13 year olds. They also ask whether I had to go to college at all, like you can get to be a lawyer from just hanging out around other lawyers or something.

The bigger issue may be why I talk about my life to 12 year olds so often.
