Adventures in dating land

Anyone puzzled by why guys on first dates ask about whether you play sports? What do they think you're going to say, "Umm, yeah, I'm hoping to make varsity this year"?

No, dummy, I'm 29. I don't play sports.

And point of clarification, frisbee golf does not count as a sport.

  1. I'm 27 and regularly play on a city soccer league...

  2. I'm thinking the question is really more an attempt to find out if you're active and enjoy the outdoors. I have abandoned organized sports, like football, basketball, baseball, and the like (my torn Achilles was the final straw, but I'd mostly given up on them earlier). However, some sports can be played quite a while, like golf (my current sport), tennis, jogging, and even hiking, right? Maybe those are the areas to respond with on a first date.

  3. I think guys in general are pretty clueless about what to talk about on a first date, so they refer back to the old standbys.

  4. Perhaps they just thought you might enjoy doing an outdoors activity...there was also the museum option...
